Little Creek Lambs- More then just sheep production...

In addition to raising sheep for breeding stock and market lambs we also have a flock of 30-40 brown egg laying hens. We provide fresh, naturally raised eggs to our local artisan bakery, Kneads Bakery located in downtown La Grande on Adams Ave. Stop in and have a scone or even better try one of Leah's famous brownies.

  Little Creek Wool Products
Wool is a fabulous medium to work with and its uses are continually being discovered. From its texture, insulating properties, and wear ability it is a truly amazing product that every ewe provides us with every season!!

Our Little Creek wool products have grown from just raw wool a few years ago into three unique and diverse products. Currently, we are offering yarn, felt bags, and dog coats. Each and every product is made from our own fiber grown here on our farm. Visit my wool products page for all  available items.

Little Creek Yarn
I have found a small woolen mill that is spinning my fiber into worsted weight yarn which is perfect for those winter necessities, such as mittens, hats etc,.. Each skein is 100 grams and approximately 260 yards in length. The color is a rich cream. Visit my yarn section on the wool products page to place an order.
My designing with wool felt continues with woolen felt handbags and purses. Each is constructed of wool felt that is processed from my very own flock's fibers into soft beautiful felt fabric. The mill I have found to process my fibers is located here in Oregon and is also a small, eco friendly,  family run operation. They do not use any harsh chemicals or bleaches, dyes etc... to make the felt.  I am constructing my purses with all natural fibers from beginning to end. I am using either Pendleton Mills woolen fabrics, pure cotton or linen, fabrics to line each design. Handles and embellishments are vintage and /or all  natural such as shell, leather, or antler buttons. If you are a retailer and interested in retailing by products give me a call or drop me a line.

A Bit of Our Sheep History
Little Creek Lambs started raising feeder lambs in 1996. With a Commercial flock of Columbia and Dorset ewes crossed on Hampshire bucks. At that time we were striving for a lamb that had more muscle definition and an over all medium sized carcass. We wanted to achieve faster gaining lambs that could produce on grass with little to no added concentrate feed. We also wanted sheep that where easy to handle and were easy to maintain on range conditions. Hearing about Texel Sheep and the tremendous carcass, as well as ease of handling, combined with high milk production we were sold on the breed.
In the fall of 2000 we purchased are first five Texel ewes and we have not looked back. We have since added various bloodlines including some Dutch style Texels from Canada. Please see our flock sire page for more details.

Our Farm Flock Future
We are using moderately framed commercial style Dorset ewes from the Ankeny flock out of Idaho, as our cross. The combination of the two breeds has only intensified the mothering traits and twin and triplet ability, along with adding a bit more frame size. And the hybrid vigor these lambs show is tremendous.
We still continue to improve upon our Purebred Texel flock by only retaining the “cream of the crop” as replacements. We also have added new Dorset genetics into our Dorset flock from Australia. We  continue to loineye scan our rams as one of our tools in choosing the best rams for breeding stock. We also enter lambs in the Umatilla Co Fair in Hermiston Oregon in their Open Jackpot Market Lamb contest. This we have found really gives us the true picture of how our lambs stack up on the rail.
With both Purebred Texel and Commercial Dorsets, we will provide both the Commercial Sheepman and the Purebred producer with quality, meaty, fast gaining sheep.
