Little Creek
Wool Felt Purses

I design and hand piece each one of my purses in my sewing studio here on the farm. Each one is constructed of wool felt that is carefully sheared and processed from my very own flock's fibers into soft beautiful felt fabric.

I am striving to create classic, but casual designs that use all natural fibers from beginning to end. I am using made in the USA fabrics such as Pendleton Mills woolen fabrics, pure natural cotton, linen, and silk fabrics to line the interiors of each design.

Each individual piece I create truly has come from the heart of our farm.  From winter snows, to summer heat, each fleece sheared reflects a year in the life of our ewes. My line of all natural, renewable, eco friendly, handbags truly celebrates the unique way that sheep provide us with this fabulous fiber called wool.

Currently retailing my handbags at "The Sheep Shed" located on Main Street in Joseph Oregon

Little Creek Sheepwagon Aprons

&
Wool Felt Hot Pads

“Sheepwagon” Aprons are my version of a timeless classic farm kitchen apron. I am using 1930’s cotton prints which fit perfectly with memories of loved mothers, grandmas, and aunties wearing these in the kitchen where busy hands stirred, washed and cleaned dishes, counters and even a child’s face a time or two. Why not start a tradition once again by using a classic apron to celebrate the holidays or any day for that matter. Cooking is love especially on our farm, share your love of cooking and eating with giving one as a gift to a special cook in your life ( even if it is you!). From a family kitchen to a church dinner every cook loves to be appreciated.

Because I love wool, I have paired my aprons with a matching wool felt hot pad. One side is insulating wool felt and the other is a quilted cotton square. These are easily washed in the machine but make sure to line dry.

The apron is reversible and has a coordinating pocket on each side. I made the ties nice and long for easy use. And the top flips over your head with nothing to tie. The apron measures 26 inches from the top of the bodice to the hem. The hot pad is a nice 8 inches square to fit in your hand.

This year I am offering the throw blanket size which measures 45"x60" . Each year a unique weave pattern is chosen. The 2010 pattern is pictured at either side; (click on the picture for a larger view).

  • Border Leicester- 2ply worsted weight

I have found a small woolen mill that does an excellent job at spinning my ewe's fiber into 2 ply yarn. The Texel fiber produces a lofty, almost springy type of yarn that I think makes the perfect yarn for outerwear such as those winter necessities; mittens, hats, etc, . That unique loftiness characteristic in the yarn tends to trap and hold heat in and thus makes your projects much more insulating then other fibers. If you have never worked with Texel fiber here is your chance.   The
Border Leicester fiber makes a lofty yarn with a beautiful sheen and luster. This yarn would make beautiful scarves and hats. I have hand dyed each skein with unique Oregon inspired colors.

For available colors and to purchase my yarn please visit or contact The Sheep Shed in Joseph, Oregon

You may ask how do you take care of /wash your new purchase? Easy. Wool felt has been used by man for over 8,000 years!! so you will have no problem with its easy care: Step 1 Take out all of your "stuff" nothing like a wet phone to ruin your day. Step 2 fill your sink with warm water and you can use your favorite laundry detergent, about a teaspoon or so, if it is a liquid, and place your bag in the soapy water to soak for a few minutes. (If you find that you have a stain or two feel free to use a spray and wash type pre treatment) Just don't use any bleach !! this will weaken the fiber on the felt and will probably leave unfavorable marks on the lining fabric. Step 3 drain the soapy water and roll your wet purse up like a jelly roll, squeezing out the water as you go. Don't wring it out or twist it, this can leave lines in the felt. Step 4 refill the sink with warm water and let soak to rinse out the soap. Then repeat step 3. Step 5 place a towel in your purse to soak up any extra moisture and to give your bag a "form" as it dries. Hang or lay your bag flat to dry. That's it, put your stuff back in and off you go.... If you find you get some "fuzzies" forming on the bag simply trim them off, like you would a wool sweater.

Third Thursday art walk gets into holiday spirit

Little Creek Lambs on Hot Lake Lane is the featured artist at Marie Josephine, 111 Depot St., for Third Thursday Art Walk Nov. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Little Creek Lambs is a small family farm in the Grande Ronde Valley. The farm produces diverse products, producing not only Texel and Dorset breeding stock and market lambs, but also unique designer woolen products, yarn and naturally raised eggs from a flock of laying hens.

Aynn Lackey's one-of-a-kind handbags are constructed from wool felt made exclusively from fleeces sheared from the farm flock. The mill Lackey uses to process her fiber is located here in Oregon and is also a small family run operation. They do not use any harsh chemicals, bleaches or dyes in processing the felt. The resulting felt fabric, Lackey says, is soft to the touch and a beautiful natural cream color.

Lackey is designing and hand piecing each of her purses in her sewing studio on the farm. She says she is striving to create designs that use all natural fibers from beginning to end. She is using either Pendleton Woolen Mills fabrics or pure cotton fabrics to line each design.

Handles and embellishments are vintage and/or all-natural such as shell and antler buttons.

Lackey's woolen designs are for women who appreciate and celebrate the use of natural fibers. From winter snows, to summer heat, each fleece reflects a year in the life of the farm's ewes. Lackey says her line of handbags celebrates the special way that sheep provide this fabulous product called wool.
